Grammy Winner Matt B To Present The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra With Their First-Ever Grammy Statue At Royal Albert Hall
History will take center stage at the Royal Albert Hall this September as two-time GRAMMY nominee and Best Global Music Album winner Matt B travels to London to present the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) with their first-ever GRAMMY Award. The presentation, celebrating the Orchestra’s historic contribution to Matt B’s award-winning album ALKEBULAN II, will take place during the RPO’s Symphonic Queen performance on September 24.

On February 2, 2025, ALKEBULAN II—produced by Matt B and his wife and manager Angela V. Benson—clinched Best Global Music Album at the 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Recorded in part at London’s famed Abbey Road Studios, the album marked a groundbreaking first for the RPO in its 79-year history, pairing their sweeping orchestral performance with African percussion, global rhythms, and sun-soaked vocal harmonies. The win also delivered the first GRAMMYs ever awarded to East Africa and Uganda, thanks to the contributions of Ugandan producers alongside a talented collective of Ugandan co-writers.
“Working with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was nothing short of extraordinary,” said Matt B. “They brought a level of depth, power, and beauty to ALKEBULAN II that transcended genres and borders. Presenting them with their first-ever GRAMMY in the very hall where so much of their magic has unfolded is an honor I’ll never forget.”
The September 24 presentation will take place as part of Symphonic Queen, the RPO’s electrifying tribute to one of rock’s most iconic bands. Audiences can expect unforgettable renditions of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Under Pressure,” “We Will Rock You,” “Somebody to Love,” and more—performed with the full grandeur of the RPO.
Founded in 1946 by Sir Thomas Beecham, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has become the UK’s most in-demand orchestra, performing around 200 concerts annually for audiences totaling more than 60 million worldwide. Their mission to enrich lives through orchestral music that is both excellent and inclusive has led them to collaborate with everyone from global pop icons to groundbreaking film composers.
With ALKEBULAN II, the RPO added a new chapter to its storied history—one that united musicians across continents and cultures in a project celebrating African identity and global unity. This month’s presentation at Royal Albert Hall cements that achievement, honoring a partnership that has reshaped the landscape of classical and global music alike.
